Overture

I have heard it told that when the student is ready, the teacher will emerge. Well, I have been a student of storycraft for as long as I can remember, and aside from a handful of semester-long stints with some inspiring but inconsistent public educators, I've gone largely without proper instruction these past 27 years. So, I've decided to start teaching myself.

Like many in this day and age, I am an avid media consumer. I spend untold amounts of time on the internet, and while this may seem like a waste of time to some, or the norm to others, a lot of it goes towards a consumptive obsession of storytelling in its many forms. This includes but is not always limited to the watching of videos, the reading of stories, the devouring of comics, and the search for and gluttonous intake of whatever other storytelling media suits my fancy. Over time, I've developed a discerning taste. I have a good general sense for what 'works' and 'doesn’t work' in my favored mediums, and delight in spelling out precisely what that is, or how I might improve it. That, or I'm well on my way towards becoming a jaded, merciless critic. Either way I ought to learn a thing or to along this road.

This blog is meant to be a space of reflection, of review, of contemplation for the myriads of stories that I consume on a daily basis, in the hopes I might glean something useable from those that have come successfully before me. You're welcome to come along for the ride.
